About Us
🎯 Our Educational Philosophy
Chess education is not yet mainstream in Hong Kong, but it is gradually gaining attention among parents and schools. Out of 179 countries, Hong Kong ranks only 125th in the world in international chess, falling behind many neighboring Asian regions. At C for Chess, we aim to popularize chess education and cultivate logical thinking, concentration, and global vision in children — empowering Hong Kong to become a city that truly values intellectual development.
📱 Why Should Children Learn Chess?
In today’s digital era, children are often glued to screens, easily distracted by short videos or mobile games. This affects their focus and social interaction. Chess, as a timeless form of intellectual training, helps children build sustained attention, develop logic and judgment, and learn to plan ahead and handle victory and defeat. These skills are not only relevant on the board, but also in life.
🧩 Our Teaching Approach: Fun & Interactive Learning
We embrace a "learning through activities" approach. Through games, role-play, and storytelling, we guide children to explore chess in an enjoyable and engaging way. They play with peers, challenge one another, and even share games with parents — nurturing family bonding, self-confidence, and problem-solving abilities in the process.
🧑🏫 Founder & Head Coach:
Ng Chun Hei (Alfred)
Master Ng Chun Hei, Chinese Chess Master, is the founder and head coach of C for Chess. With over a decade of teaching experience both locally and abroad, he has earned numerous titles in both Chinese Chess and International Chess, and has successfully coached many students to win school and public tournaments. He is widely trusted and respected by students and parents alike.
🌍 Global Exposure & International Recognition
In 2023, Alfred participated in an international tournament in Spain, where he and the rising star Gukesh D. (and now the current World Champion) won the Group A and Group B championships respectively. Their shared photo marks not only a victorious moment but also a testament to our program’s international standard.
He also had the opportunity to meet former World Champion Viswanathan Anand at a public event, whose philosophy — "Chess is education, not just competition" — left a lasting impression and further solidified Alfred’s mission to promote intellectual growth through chess.
